Many people do not realize that the ability to pray in tongues is also a very valuable tool when seeking healing from the Lord. Of course, this gift comes with the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, because so many in the Body of Christ have been taught that the baptism in the Holy Spirit and tongues are not for today, those Christians do not have the opportunity to take advantage of this avenue to health.
It is not the purpose of this book to teach a lesson on tongues, so we will limit the explanation to the following: There are two different categories of tongues spoken of in the Word of God. One is the gift described in 1 Corinthians 12, which includes both tongues for personal prayer and for giving messages from the Lord in public meetings.
When used for giving public messages, the tongues must be accompanied by interpretation, and scripture explains that tongues used in that category are not necessarily available to everyone all the time. The gift of tongues for messages, along with the gift of interpretation are operated, like all the other nine gifts of the Spirit, and they are manifested only as the Spirit wills. The entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 14 gives detailed explanations of how these gifts should be used in public meetings.
However, the second category – tongues for personal use – is given to all believers and, whether or not those believers make use of this gift is entirely up to each person. We must be careful to understand that even if we do not find ourselves used to give public messages in tongues, we have Jesus’ word of promise that we will have access to tongues for personal prayer equally with every other believer. Mark 16:15-17 tells us clearly,
Now, the word translated in English as “tongues” is actually the Greek word which means “languages not learned through natural means.” So, in other words, a totally supernatural gift from the Lord that bypasses our intellect.
The Lord explains, through the words of St. Paul, in Romans 8:2-27, that often “we do not know how to pray as we should.” And, of course, many people, when they are suffering physically, find it hard to pray as effectively as they need to pray. But God has a solution to this problem, and verse 26 tells us that His Holy Spirit helps us pray through utterances too deep for words. (The literal Greek here says “groanings or utterances too deep for articulate speech.”)
St. Paul, through the Holy Spirit, goes on to tell us in 1 Corinthians 14:5 that he wishes we would all pray much in tongues. And he makes clear in verse 14 of that chapter that when we pray in tongues, our minds are not involved – only our spirits. It is true that our minds must make the decision to allow our spirit to be in charge of our prayer, so that we release our tongue to speak the utterances the Holy Spirit gives us, but other than making that decision of the will, the mind has no part to play. As a result of that fact, our own mind, our own lack of understanding of medical conditions, and our own fears are shut out, and our spirit – helped by the Holy Spirit – takes over our prayers.
But possibly one of the most exciting truths in this passage of Scripture is what we learn in verses 2 and 4 of chapter 14. Verse 2 tells us that when we pray in tongues, we speak mysteries to God. He can also speak mysteries back to us because He’s in charge of the language. We must do the actual physical speaking, but He provides what’s being said in the sounds we make. But since we’re speaking mysteries, not only does our un-renewed mind stay out of the picture, but so does the enemy of our souls, because he can’t understand what we’re saying either.
But wait: It still gets better. Verse 4 tells us that the one who prays in tongues edifies himself. Now, most people consider that verse to mean that we build ourselves up spiritually. And, of course, we do, but that’s not the total benefit. The word translated “edify” means “to build or repair the house.” Now, let that sink in: your spirit is praying (with the language provided by the Holy Spirit), and that prayer is building/repairing your spirit’s house. And what is that house? That’s right – it’s your physical body. A number of Christians have learned that healing – especially for seriously troubling or obstinate maladies – can come successfully through praying in tongues. I know of situations where nothing else seemed to bring the desired manifestation, but praying at length in the language given by the Holy Spirit accomplished the work and brought forth the miracle.
As we’ve said each time we’ve discussed one of the means of healing that God prescribes in His Word, these means and these practices are not formulas. They do not work because we follow a list of ‘do’s and ‘don’t’s. They are each an avenue that God has provided to get His healing power into us, and they work successfully when we dig into the Word and prayer and let God lead us to the specific means that is right for each of our situations at that particular time.

Hey, I just want to let you all know that my book Healing Is For You! is now available in paperback from Amazon. It’s been on the market in paperback for years, selling in independent bookstores, at seminars, Bible schools, and through churches. And it went onto Amazon in digital format last year. But the only online retailer for the paperback was the publisher’s website, St. Ellen Press.
However, this week the book has come out in its fourth paperback edition, with a new look, new format, and lower price ($6.99) — and now it’s easy to order from Amazon.
It still offers a thorough study from God’s Word about healing for body and mind, and it still answers scores of the most troubling questions on the subject. Such as —-
Is it always God’s will to heal?
If it is God’s will to heal everyone, then why doesn’t everyone receive healing?
What part does medical science play in God’s healing plan?
Is it God who decides when each person dies?
How can I ever die if I keep getting healed?
If I don’t have faith for healing, can I get it somehow?
The book doesn’t promote any church doctrine. Rather it looks closely and carefully at God’s Word — especially the life and ministry of Jesus — who, according to the Word, is the only exact, perfect representation of God. It looks at God’s personal and perfectly-executed plan to get His people well and keep them well. It covers 9 separate means that God Himself has provided to get His healing power into us, and it looks carefully at 7 of the most common hindrances to our receiving that healing fully. It also offers a final chapter with more than 100 healing scriptures to use as medicine, just the way the Lord instructs us to do.
The Lord has graciously anointed and blessed Healing Is For You! to strengthen and encourage faith and help people receive healing from Jesus Christ. If you need healing, or you would like to better understand God’s healing plan so that you can help others get well, it will be a wonderful tool to help you move more fully into God’s loving, merciful plan to bless His people.
In my country, November is the month of “Thanksgiving.” But since harvest season lasts in many countries from September through November, a lot of people around the world focus on expressing their gratitude for the blessings they have received throughout the year.
One of the things I’m most grateful for is excellent health. It’s probably the most important thing for me personally of all the blessings I enjoy. And the main reason I’m able to enjoy excellent health is because the Lord Jesus Christ has offered me His own health and well-being to take the place of sickness and infirmity in my body — just the way He offers me His own righteousness to take the place of my sinfulness.
I’ve studied God’s Word diligently throughout my lifetime, and I’ve particularly studied what He has to tell us about healing, because the Lord called me into a healing ministry many years ago. As a result of what I’ve learned from His Word — and from 40 years of ministering His healing power to people with all kinds of bodily and mental afflictions — I wrote the book Healing Is For You! Although I originally wrote it almost 18 years ago, I have updated it three times in the past few years. The book is now in its third edition, and has been purchased and used by churches, Christian schools, and individuals to help stir and strengthen the faith of the sick and help them receive the healing they need from the merciful God who created their bodies and wants them well.
I’ve been blessed many times over by the testimonies of people who have read this book and received their faith so strengthened that they were able to reach out and receive from the Lord miraculous changes in their bodies and another chance at a life of health and wholeness. As a way of expressing my gratitude for my own health and for the health of the many who have received through the ministry of this book, I decided to offer it at a significant sale price throughout the month of November.
So from today, November 3, 2016, through November 30, 2016, Healing Is For You! will be on sale in its e-book format at the Amazon Kindle store for $1.99. That’s a savings of $2.00. You can follow the link to the Kindle store and learn more about the book. It answers a lot of the most common questions concerning healing and how to receive it from the Lord. And it includes many personal testimonies as well as a thorough study of God’s own Word on the subject.
If you do not own a Kindle, that is no problem, because right on the page where you purchase the book, Amazon offers the download of a free Kindle app for any device that you want to use.
If you’re facing illness in your own life, or you have a loved one who is, think about getting a copy of Healing Is For You! Because God’s healing really is for you, and He wants to help you receive it from Him today.
Just a note to let my readers know that “Healing Is For You!” is now an e-book. The book (now in its third edition) has been used for years in churches, in Bible and Christian schools, and in personal and group studies. It’s a handbook for anyone who wants help in receiving healing from the Lord — or for those who want to learn more about what God’s Word says concerning healing in order to help others.
The book answers such troubling questions as the following:
Is it always God’s will to heal everybody?
What part does medical science play in God’s healing plan?
Isn’t man promised only 70 or 80 years of life on earth?
Is it God who determines when each person dies?
How can I die if I keep getting healed?
If it’s God’s will to heal, why do so many people fail to receive healing from Him?
If I don’t have faith for healing can I get that faith somehow?
You’ll find the e-book version at the Amazon Kindle Store for $3.99. And if you don’t have a Kindle, you can download a totally free Kindle app for any device you use.
Check it out. If you don’t need it, purchase one for someone you love who does need it.
Well, this week, I finally took the plunge to learn how to set up a YouTube account and channel — and then start posting videos. I began with the audio of healing scriptures read by my father. Of course, I had to add still pictures and convert them into what YouTube calls a “movie.” It took a while, but I finally jumped through all the hoops successfully.
Unfortunately, on my old operating system and browser, some of the YouTube videos sound scratchy, and this one does as well. However, on my laptop, with a newer operating system and browser, it sounds great. So if any of you do hop over and listen to it, let me know what you found as far as sound quality.
Thanks a lot. I’m believing the Lord to use it to minister to many people.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts; neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater: so shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:8-11).
Did you catch the main point here? The Lord is telling us that the rain and the snow water the earth and MAKE it bring forth fruit, and that His Word will do exactly the same thing in us. That is – The Word of God, when it is received into the ground for which it is intended – our spirit, soul, and body – will MAKE that ground – our spirit, soul, and body – bring forth the fruit of the Word. It’s because of this truth that God can say His Word will not return to Him void, without accomplishing that which He wills.
We know for sure that God’s Word is His Will. He has told us repeatedly throughout scripture, both Old and New Covenants, that He created all that is natural by and through His Word – and that His Word will never fade away nor fail. He tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that all scripture is “God-breathed.” (Original Greek). So His Word has creative power in it, just as it did on the first day of creation, and has been sent to create the things of God – all that is of life, health, and holiness – in us.
Now, let’s look at one specific set of His words that have been sent to accomplish a very specific and exact work. Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “My son, give attention to My words. Incline thine ear to My sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes. Keep them in thine heart. For they (My Words) are life unto you that find them and health (medicine) to all your flesh.” The word translated health in this passage is actually a Hebrew word that is correctly translated “health” and “medicine.” So God tells us here clearly that His Word is medicine for all of our flesh. There’s nothing left out in the words “all of our flesh.” There is no disease or physical affliction for which God’s Word is not medicine. But it’s even better than mere medicine. It’s medicine with a guarantee that it will restore health.
When we couple that information with the information He gives us in Isaiah 55:10-11, we find that His Word, when we apply it in faith as medicine to our physical bodies, will MAKE our bodies bring forth the fruit of health. “But,” you may say, “it’s not happening in my life or the lives of many people I know.” That is true. But just how many people do you know who will search God’s Word until they know exactly what it says about healing and until they are saturated in God’s healing Words? I don’t know many, but the ones I do know – including myself – have found that Word every bit as effective in fruit-bearing as those passages indicate.
I have failed to apply it faithfully at times in my life and had to live with the results. BUT – every time that I HAVE applied it – to my own body and to those of loved ones — to serious problems and minor problems alike – it has worked a healing and a cure – even when doctors said the body had been damaged too much to recover or that surgery was the only option. Moreover, hundreds of thousands of believers all over the world have found this same effectiveness for their bodies and have testified of it for generations.
But, dear one, you must not make the decision to believe God’s Word as your medicine based on the experiences of other people. You must make the decision to believe based only on whether you trust the Word of God. He tells us, in absolutely certain terms, that His Word is His medicine for our bodies. And then in Hebrews 4:11, He also tell us that His Word is “alive and powerful, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and the joints and marrow of the bones.”
Now, medical science tells us that all blood cell production takes place in the bone marrow. And the Word tells us that the life of the flesh is in the blood. If that is the case, just think what can happen if we saturate ourselves with the Word of God enough to fill our bone marrow with it. Since God promises that the Word –like the rain and snow – will MAKE the ground bear fruit, then that Word in our bone marrow will MAKE our body bear a harvest as well. When you get enough Word in the blood cells flowing into every cell of your body, it can go to work destroying the unhealthy cells and energizing the creation of healthy ones. Then, in a matter of time, that sick body becomes a healthy body.
Consider taking God’s Word seriously. Consider believing what He tells us. And consider sitting down with the Word and reading it into your own body – especially the portions that speak healing and health – absorbing it regularly, faithfully – at least as regularly and faithfully as you would take the pills or the medical treatments a human doctor prescribes. Give God’s medicine the same honor and attention that you give man-made medicine, and see if it doesn’t MAKE your body bear a wonderful harvest of God’s health and life.
I posted this article almost a year ago, but I have felt a strong conviction to offer it again at this time. Feel free to bypass it if you remember it well, but if not, perhaps it will meet a need for you today.
Hebrews 12:29 says, “Our God is a consuming fire.” Let Him burn in you today. Let His fire burn out every root of disease and infirmity that has taken hold in your body. Think about how a raging fire – a “consuming” fire – literally devours and consumes every tree, every bush, every blade of grass, every structure in its wake. Even if we’ve been blessed enough that we’ve never personally faced one of the huge forest fires that literally swallowed up whole neighborhoods as they swept out of wooded areas and right through highly populated suburbs, we’ve still seen on TV how nothing could stand in the face of the power of those fires.
Now, they were burning in response to something evil happening – a lightning strike, a careless match or cigarette, a campfire or bonfire gone awry. But Hebrews 12:29 is talking about a fire that burns from the heart of a loving God who created this world and created each one of us. A God who wants us to be free from sin and the curse it brought into the world. He wants us free from sickness, which is a major part of the curse. In fact, He wants us free so badly that He gave us Jesus to take all the sickness on our behalf, so that we could then be freed from having to bear it ourselves. Isaiah 53:4-5 tells us that Jesus “bore our sins, sickness, weakness, distress … sorrows and pains.” That passage then goes on to declare that “by His stripes, we are healed.”
The God who gave His only Son to bear our sickness considered it a privilege to set us free from the horrors of disease and infirmity. He comes to us in all of His power to do just that when we receive His Word and trust Him to be our physician.
Now, dear reader, don’t let yourself be deceived by those who are ignorant of God’s Word — who know only bits and pieces of it, mainly from someone else’s erroneous teaching. Many of those people will try to tell you that when the Bible refers to God’s fire it is referring to trouble and problems and all kinds of horrible situations that He sends for you to endure. Not So! God’s Word does not say that. On the contrary, God says that He Himself is the consuming fire — not a problem, a tragedy of life, or some evil experience. It is God Himself who will come to you and, by the fire of His own Holy Spirit, burn up the things that have you bound up and suffering.
You don’t have to be afraid of the fire of God. That fire will not burn YOU; it will only burn out the destructive thing that is trying to steal the health and life out of you. In Joel 3:21, the Lord says of the time when His Holy Spirit would be set free in the earth (our present time), “I will cleanse their blood ….” He wants His fire to rage through your entire blood stream, cleansing it and purifying it.
Many times in history, when a city or community was in the throes of some plague, the authorities gave orders for the clothing and even, at times, the very homes of the sick to be burned, because that was the only way to thoroughly get rid of the root cause of the disease. Fire is more than a destroyer. It is a cleanser. The fire of God will not destroy us. It will destroy the disease, the demonic roots, the corruption that has taken hold in our bodies. That fire will cleanse us and set us free.
So, today, turn yourself over to the God who is a consuming fire. Invite Him to come in and burn within you. Now, He isn’t likely to burn out only the disease. When He is allowed to come in and work, He likes to do a thorough job. So don’t be surprised if, while He’s at it, he also burns out some wrong attitudes, ideas, prejudices, and sinful habits. Sometimes those things have been at the root of our sickness problem, or sometimes they hinder our receiving our complete healing. But always they hinder God from making us everything He wants us to be. So, if they are in the way, He’ll burn right through them as well.
Let God be a consuming fire in you today. Let Him consume everything that is not of Him and leave you clean and well and open to receiving all that He can give you of Himself.
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.” (Matt. 4:23-24).
“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” (Matt. 9:35).
“And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all the country round about, and brought unto Him all that were diseased and besought Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment; and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.” (Matt. 4:35-36).
“And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee, and went up into a mountain and sat down there. And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet, and he healed them: insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.” (Matt. 5:29-31).
“And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew Him, and ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard He was, and whithersoever He entered into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought Him that they might touch if it were but the border of His garment: and as many as touched Him were made whole.” (Mark 6:54-56).
“Now, when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them, and healed them. (Luke 4:40).
“And as He entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off; and they lifted up their voices and said, ‘Jesus Master, have mercy on us.’ And when He saw them, He said unto them, ‘Go shew yourselves unto the priests.’ And it came to pass that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back and with a loud voice glorified God. …And Jesus answering said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed?‘” (Luke 17:12-17).
Remember, if you or someone you love is in need of healing – no matter how impossible the situation may seem – God does make house calls, and He does not believe in the word impossible. Follow this link to the “Healing From Jesus” blog and let His Word and the anointed teaching on that site strengthen and lift your faith to receive what you need from the Lord.
How do I know that? Because He says repeatedly that He never changes. And Hebrews 13:8 tells us in absolutely no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ is the same — that means THE SAME — yesterday, today, and forever. What He did for the people when He walked the earth, He still does for people today.
Our problem most of the time is that we don’t really believe that He wants to do it or that He will. But when Jesus walked the earth, He sent out His disciples to carry His message – the good news that God was sending grace, mercy, and salvation to His people the way He had promised – and that Jesus Himself was the vessel through which all of it would come. He gave those disciples very specific instructions about going out to the rest of the world. “And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.” (Luke 9:2). Let’s read those instructions again: “Preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick.” Now, mind you, He did not say heal SOME of the sick. He did not specify that only certain people – or certain maladies – were to be healed. He told them to heal THE SICK.
Then when He was preparing to leave and return to the Father after His resurrection, He told them to go out to the wold, make disciples of all nations, and then teach them (all those new disciples) to observe “all the things” that He had commanded them to do. That means we are supposed to be going out to those who need the Lord and His help. We are to be sharing the gospel – the good news of Jesus’ mercy and all that goes with it – and we are to take them God’s healing.
Just think; really think: If we were fulfilling those instructions, we would be emptying our hospitals!
Unfortunately, we have very, very few Christians who spend time in the hospitals reading God’s Word of healing to the patients and encouraging them to believe that Word. Most of the Christians who visit the sick in the hospital are telling them that God might not want to heal them – or that they may be giving God glory with their sickness. Beloved reader, we have dealt with those lies in several different articles on this site, so I will not belabor it right here. But I would just remind each of us that if we really – genuinely – honestly – want to do God’s perfect will in our lives, we will change that situation.
There is no excuse that is going to be good enough when we face Him at the end of our time here and realize we have failed to fulfill one of the two most important aspects of His great commission. Oh, He won’t punish us for failing. His grace is enough to forgive us for our unbelief and our disobedience. He won’t punish us, but He will look at us with eyes full of love and compassion, and we will see in those eyes the question. It will be the same question that Jesus asked His disciples again and again. “Why did you doubt, oh ye of little faith?”
Well, you know what? If we are people of “little faith,” then that means there is some “big faith” out there to be had. And since the Word tells us that faith comes by the Word of God (Romans 10:17), then if we spend enough time in that Word – and put it to work in our lives – we could get to the place that we become people of great faith. As a result, we just might prove useful to our Lord and Great Physician: We just might find ourselves being used to empty out a few hospitals.
Ted Pavloff, of Glory Ministries, reads healing scriptures on CD. Anyone who is too ill to read for himself – or anyone who just wishes to lean back and rest with eyes closed while soaking up the healing Word of God – will find this CD most helpful. The Lord tells us clearly that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:10). So even if your faith for healing is very small, listening to this CD will increase that faith and build it up to receive what you need from the Lord. Just click on the link below and listen free
